4.外国文学简写本。高二时，我要求每人手头备一本英语简写本（即英汉对照本），利用寒暑假与同学交 换的办法，每人读1—2本简写本读物，然后写出读后感或故事的梗概，字数不限，可根据各自的能力发挥，待 开学时上交作业让教师检查。教师把好的作文张贴在墙上，供同学阅读欣赏。结果，同学选的作品有好多，如 《苔丝》、《爱玛》、《鲁宾逊漂流记》、《汤姆索亚历险记》、《三个神枪shou》、《简爱》、《艰难时世》 、《雾都孤儿》、《忠实的朋友》等。大家都按教师要求完成，上交。大部分同学都洋洋洒洒地写了一大张。 拥有同一类书的同学阐述了各自不同的观点和体会。一部分同学写得很好，不但很有自己的见解和体会，在英 语语言的表达上也下了一番功夫，可谓刻苦用功。下面是一篇学生写的习作，教师只对个别词作了修改，基本 上保持原样。
Tess of the D'urbevilles
During the winter holidays, I read a novel called "Tessof the D'urbevilles". It was wri tten by a famous Englishwriter Thomas Hardy.
The novel tells a story about a pretty and good girlcalled Tess, who lived in a vil lage in Marlott. To hersadness, when she was seventeen, she was no longer a pure anduntouc hed girl. She gave birth to a baby, which didn't livelong. So Tess changed from a pure gir l to a grown —up.Because she was the eldest of the five children in the family, she found a job to support the whole family in a dairy.There she knew Angel and married him. But u nluckily. whenAngel knew her sad story, he left her and went to Brazil.Tess led a hard an d lonely life after that. Later when sheknew Angel had retumed home and found out that
she wasliving with the man who had given the damage to her before,Tess couldn't accept the
fact and killed the man who wasliving with her. Then she escaped and spent together withAngel three days and nights. The police found them on themoming of the fourth day. A fe w days later, Tess was executed.
Having read this novel, I like the heroine very muchbecause of her purity, warmness, n obility and the spirit ofdevotion, She dared to fight against the evil, bravely seekand st urggle for the rights of love.
Thomas Hardy was famous for the poetical novels. "Tess ofthe D'urbevilles"is one of this k ind. The novel is so freshthat it is nearly like a poem. For nearly a century, it hasbeen p opular with the people all over the world.
